When the draw was made, the combination of Brian White, Alan Dolby and Phil Hewes seemed to be the ones to watch and so it proved when they returned a score of 77, including 17 three-point scores to claim first place.

In second with 75 were Malcolm Edwards, David Hamilton and Simon Mulla, a point ahead of the third-placed team of vice-captain Jim Price, Ray Elsome and Eddie Plant.

With four rounds remaining, Eddie Plant retains his overall lead on 38 points, while Alan Dolby moves into second place with 34 and Greg Ewart is third on 32. A total of 78 players have competed.

Players are awarded a single point each time they play and finish outside the leading groups. As the end of the season approaches there is fierce interest in the award of the Slack Goblet together with its accompanying bottle of brandy, awarded to the player with the most single points.

Four players – Don Werner, Steve Major, Brian Keightley and Ernie Armstrong, currently lead the way.
