John Martindale became Stoke Rochford Golf Club’s seniors singles matchplay champion last week.

John won on the last hole against Eddie Malloy in a close-fought final of the annual knockout competition.

He completed a rare double by adding this title to the pairs knockout championship he claimed in late summer with Malcolm Edwards, becoming only the third player to achieve this feat.

* Stoke Rochford’s latest Winter Warmers competition was a pairs Stokesome where seniors’ captain Mike Nixon and partner Allan Hayward were clear winners.

They returned 43 points, a full five points clear of Steve Cullington and Tim Haward who took second place on countback from third-placed Eddie Plant and Mick Rance. Five pairs scored 36 points.

After four weeks, Eddie Plant leads the series overall with 14 points from Greg Ewart (13) and Mike Nixon (12).
