Melton RFC Under 13s produced their best result of the season as they returned from Boston 60-10 winners.

In good conditions for rugby, Boston started strongly and within five minutes were ahead when a home winger crossed in the corner.

But Melton sprang into action and battled hard, showing superior skill and endeavour.

Good work from the forwards released Con F who took on the Boston backs to score in the corner. He then turned provider, side-stepping the defence before passing to Josh B who sprinted past the remaining full-back to score his first try for the club.

Adam A was in inspired form at number eight and from the halfway line smashed through the hosts for a great solo try.

He then went into overdrive and, following a quick tap and go, battled over for another try to give Melton a big 31-5 half-time lead.

The second half was similar as Melton looked to put more scores on the board.

Archie H’s fantastic side-step mesmerised the hosts to score a quick try before creative number 10 Tom P converted his own try to establish a 45-5 lead.

The biggest cheer of the day was saved for Cameron P who picked the ball up from 22 metres, spotted a gap, and beat five defenders before crashing in under the posts for his first Melton try.

Con F inflicted more damage when he linked with Archie H before impressive scrum-half Stan C was put into a gap by some fabulous rucking from Aled K and George B-Griffin and sprinted in under the posts to cap Melton’s best performance of the season.

Boston never gave in and with two minutes left were rewarded with a late consolation try.
