Melton Mowbray RFC minis and juniors hosted the preliminary round of the Leicestershire RFU Festival last week.
Despite high winds and rain for much of the time, some excellent rugby was played during the festival which featured competitions in under 9s to under 12s age group.
The event saw 16 teams, comprising more than 220 players, plus coaches and supporters from local clubs, converge on Burton Road for the round robin matches.
Melton came out winners in the under 9s and under 11s age groups, while Market Bosworth topped the under 10s and under 12s to share the overall spoils.
All teams will now go forward to the season-ending county finals later in the season to compete in the Cup, Bowl, Plate and Shield competitons.
This is the second consecutive year that Melton RFC has been invited to stage the event.
The club received praise from visiting sides for their hospitality, reflecting the effort that club volunteers have put in to attracting new players and their families during World Cup year.
