Melton RFC junior Charlie Mills is counting down the days until Rugby World Cup 2015 kicks off after he was picked to be an official mascot.
Along with his Melton RFC team-mates, Charlie took part in the Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup at Leicester Tigers last season.
It was there that the 11-year-old impressed with his imaginary speech to the England team ahead of the Rugby World Cup 2015 final.
His rousing choice of words has now earned him his own spot in the tournament.
Mills will be Romania’s mascot when they face Canada at the Leicester City Stadium on October 6, and the Leicester Grammar School pupil can’t wait to get going.
“It feels amazing and I’m very proud. After finding out I felt gobsmacked and amazed,” said Charlie, one of 96 official mascots selected by Land Rover.
“I didn’t believe my dad when he gave me the news and showed me the email. It was unexpected as we were on holiday in Cornwall.
“I can’t wait to stand on the pitch in front of thousands and be on TV with the best of the best.”
Lewis Moody, a Land Rover ambassador, helped England lift the trophy in 2003, and admits he would love to be in Mills’ shoes.
He said: “Charlie has earned the right to be part of such an amazing experience at a home Rugby World Cup and to be honest I am jealous.
“I’d have bitten your arm off to play in a home Rugby World Cup – I was too young and immature in 1999 and now sadly I’m too old and too mature.
“Sometimes a Rugby World Cup can seem a bit inaccessible to people so the fact that Land Rover have been taking the Webb Ellis Cup around the country and also selecting mascots is fantastic.
“It’s inviting young players to get involved with Rugby World Cup, understand what it’s about and get excited by it – it’s brilliant.”
