Ratcliffe College is to become the official home venue for the Leicestershire Young Cricketers’ County programme.
The county’s age group sides from under 12s and under 15s will use the college as their venue for all home matches, starting next summer.
Ratcliffe has invested in its cricket facilities, including a new pavilion, while the college’s groundstaff receive advice and support from their fellow groundsmen at Grace Road.
Leicestershire CCC academy director, Andy Siddall, said: “In previous years, our fixtures have been held at Ratcliffe College and at local clubs where we have been most grateful for the support from the Leicestershire cricketing network.
“However, it will be a major step forward to have a permanent summer cricketing base at Ratcliffe for our younger age groups.
“Our intention is to help the college develop its own cricket programme by supporting coaching and player development through masterclasses, and aligning the college’s cricket curriculum with our coaching philosophy.”
Ratcliffe College headteacher Jonathan Reddin, said: “We have enjoyed a strong relationship with the club for many years, but this new initiative will help our boys and girls develop their talents even further, while at the same time providing first class facilities for Leicestershire Young Cricketers. “We are immensely proud of this new venture, and look forward to the new season and working closely with the Leicestershire county coaches.”
