In-form Waltham rider Kelly Morgan celebrated a double as the Quorn held their point-to-point at Garthorpe on Sunday.

Morgan rode Garthorpe’s leading horse Lough Inch to victory in the opening Garthorpe Hunts Club Members Conditions race.

The eight-year-old, owned by Lizzie Harris and trained by Lizzie and Kelly’s brother Tom, completed a third win at the course in 2015 and now heads for the PPORA Novice Riders final at Tabley on Sunday, May 17.

Kelly was unseated from her mount Minstalad on the way to the start of the PPORA Club Members race for novice riders, but the pair took command of the race turning out of the back straight for the final time.

The win put Morgan back into the lead of both the D&M Barthorpe Novice Rider Award and the Midlands lady rider award.

Tom Strawson has an unassailable lead in the Men’s Championship with just two more Midlands meetings left after two more wins.

He first guided Panama Canal to victory in the Quorn Gold Cup feature race. Strawson’s second win came with his own Tomstar in the PPORA Club Members Conditions race.

He finished third in the Open Maiden race behind Lord Baltimore and jockey Dicky Collinson.

The King Of Angels took the Nine Year Olds and Over Midlands Area Club Members Conditions race to give rider Pete Mann his 12th win of the season, but the day’s easiest winner was Qoubilai who made it a fourth consecutive win in the Ladies’ Open race for Ivan Crane and Jimmy King.
