Dropped catches snuffed out any hopes of a dramatic fightback as Thorpe Arnold slipped to a heavy defeat at Barrow on Saturday.
Thorpe won the toss and chose to bat on a flat-looking Barrow wicket, but to say the visitors got themselves into a spot of bother would be a huge understatement.
Clark fell in the first over, quickly followed by in-form batsmen Hickman and Gillett. Stansha Galloway was bowling a dream spell down the hill as he picked up 5 for 10.
Exton dug in but to no avail as he, Read and Starkey all fell to leave the guests teetering on 35-7 which soon became 43-8 when G. Exton went.
A partnership finally developed between Waldron and Christie who added 59. Waldron was the aggressor, smashing the ball to all parts as he made a blistering 54 before skying one.
Christie hit three sixes in his 22, and Pepperdine added an unbeaten six as Thorpe somehow managed to make 122 all out.
Barrow’s reply reached 62-0 before Thorpe finally seemed to get a slice of luck as Nightingale was adjudged lbw to Pepperdine, despite it looking high.
Thorpe’s man-of-the-match Waldron then took wickets in each of his first two overs, bowling Modha and having the dangerous Avatar caught behind.
But that was as good as it got as Barrow eased home by seven wickets. Thorpe again created chances, but catches went down again which must not happen at this level.
Thorpe have two games this weekend as Ivanhoe visit on Saturday before the County Cup gets under way on Sunday with an away trip to Shree Sanatan.
