The unfancied Lagoon sees Atherton keep up win streak

Lagoon has not been fishing that well but last Wednesday it produced the overall winner.

Mick Atherton continued his winning streak with 79lbs from peg 23, where he caught regularly through the match fishing shallow.

Second on the lake was Brian Nicholls from peg 11, with 59lbs, which included some good sized mirrors.

Alan Treadwell was third with 35lbs.

On Serpent Roger Marlow, on golden peg 13, appeared to be heading for a good pay out when he caught throughout the match, but with no big carp to build up his overall weight he finished with 65lbs to take the lake but not the money.

Cliff Adcock was second on the lake. fishing peg 2 with 55lbs. The other section winner was Tom Hamilton. from peg 25 with 53lbs.

On Canal there were reasonable weights all round but it was Dirk Williams who took the lake from peg 13 with 62lbs.

This was just ahead of Steve Beckhurst on peg 5. with 59lbs just 15ozs ahead of John Cooke on peg 15 also with 59lbs.

The other section was won by a delighted Steve Cunningham, who has struggled in previous matches. He had 39lbs from peg 26.

The previous Saturday saw Stream certainly perform better than River for the match.

Steve Cuthbert was on Stream peg 1 and, fishing the margins, he was the match winner with 57lbs, taken on maggot, worm and pellet.

He was just ahead of Paul Dodwell on peg 4, who could have had a better day. But with a broken pole he had to fish short but he still managed to take 52lbs on pinkie.

The other section winner on the lake was Steve Beckhurst who, despite only having 8 carp, caught good-sized ones and he finished with 37lbs.

On River weights were extremely low and Pete Sisson was the lake winner with just 20lbs, just 4ozs ahead of Mick Atherton on peg 7.

Martin Quilter took the other section from peg 20 where a late mirror carp gave him 19lbs 14ozs, just 4ozs ahead of Graham Elliott on peg 1.
