Wicket-keeper Tom Moores is set to face the biggest test of his exciting young career after winning selection for England’s Under 19s World Cup squad.

Moores was called up into a 15-man squad for the tournament which gets under way in Bangladesh late next month. England have been pitted against the West Indies, Zimbabwe and Fiji in their group.

The 19-year-old, from Wymeswold, will face competition for the gloves from Somerset’s Ryan Davies, but his batting prowess alone could earn him a starting berth when England kick off their campaign against the Fijians in Chittagong on January 27.

Moores featured in the opening match of a recent triangular tournament in Sri Lanka, scoring 10 and taking a catch in an 86-run defeat to India.

But Davies started the next three matches which ended in two further defeats and an abandonment.

Moores joined Nottinghamshire from Leicestershire last year and this summer helped them become Second XI county champions with a century in the final.
