South Notts League: Old Dalby put Hucknall to the sword

Have your say

Old Dalby will go into their final game of the season top of Division N after a Ben Wass-inspired win on Saturday.

Dalby were put into bat by Hucknall and they got off to a good start, but Chris Knott was unable to match his performance from the previous week and was caught for 19.

It was then left to Wass (163) and Joe Gant (63) to rack up the runs.

Wass hit 20 boundaries and nine sixes in his innings before he was finally bowled by Steve Gregory. The remainder of the batsmen added to the score as Dalby finished their 45 overs on 310-9.

After tea, Hucknall lost opener Lee Whyley cheaply, but Steve Gregory (50), Michael Rees (37) and Andy Whyley (26) set about the chase.

But they had no answer to Dalby’s determined bowling and fielding. Chris Knott took an excellent catch, diving to get both hands to the ball inches from the ground and dismissing Gregory before he could inflict any more damage.

Carrick Fone (4 for 16), Harry Clayton (2 for 17) and Lee Creedon (2 for 27) were the pick of the Dalby bowlers as Hucknall were dismissed for 164 in 31 overs.
