Three runners from Melton made the trip up the M6 to run the Manchester Marathon on Sunday.

In near perfect conditions, Stilton Strider Matt Gayton was first over the line in front of Old Trafford football stadium with a time of 3hr 25min 57secs, beating his previous personal best by 36 minutes.

At mile 20, Matt had plans of overtaking the 3.15hr pacesetter, but either the pacer speeded up or Matt slowed down.

Fellow Strider Abi Arnott also took a good chunk out of her PB, lowering it by 14 minutes with 3.42.57, and Mark Ninnis followed soon after, making an impressive marathon debut to clock 3.46.48.
