Melton RFC Under 9s Lions produced another great performance at Syston with everyone playing their part.

In tough conditions on an energy-sapping pitch all nine of the boys played brilliantly to win their first game five tries to one.

The Lions’ stamina shone through in an even second game, scoring three unanswered tries to win 5-2. Both coaches opted to play one more game and with tiring legs Melton edged to a tight 3-2 win.

The team wish to thank Tim Flood for refereeing and offering coaching tips to both sides, and to the parents for their great support on the sidelines.

Coach Dean praised T. Westmorland for his superb all-round play – positioning, tackling, great listening skills and for a length-of-the-pitch try.

* Melton Tigers played at home in the County Cup tournament in a four-team play-off event and reached the next round with an unbeaten record.

The coaching team of Paul Moore, Darren, Andy and Bill motivated the players for a full on morning of rugby against Market Bosworth, Stoneygate and Oakham.

In bitter conditions, the Tigers got off to a flyer with a comfortable high-scoring win, and then were awarded the win from a drawn nip-and-tuck game on the first try scored rule.

In the final game against Oakham, qualification for the next round was secured in a dominant fashion with nine tries scored to secure top spot in the group. Each player put everything on the line for their team.
