Former Leicestershire CCC player Matt Boyce made a stunning County League debut as his unbeaten century helped Barkby United ease past Broomleys on Saturday.

Boyce scored 135 not out off 103 balls as he and Ian Kirk put on 182 for the first wicket. Kirk reached his 50 off 51 balls, while Boyce completed his half-century at exactly a run-a-ball.

Both played a fine array of strokes until Kirk was adjudged lbw when he had made 85.

Tom Flowers joined his former county club-mate and the run feast continued until Flowers was caught for 43 off 32 balls when Barkby declared, leaving them 53 overs to bowl the home side out.

The Broomleys openers started soundly, putting on 56 for the first wicket, but they were never up with the required scoring rate.

Toal was well caught by Matt Harby off the bowling of Tom Flowers, and wickets then fell at regular intervals.

Spinners Drake and Flowers took five wickets each, and wicketkeeper Martin Troop took two excellent catches, to dismiss the visitors for 134 and give Barkby an emphatic victory by 145 runs.

The win puts Barkby very much back into the race for promotion on what was a good day for the club with all three sides achieving victories.
