Thorpe Arnold captain Jake Gillett won the toss and had first bat on the notoriously flat Leicester Ivanhoe wicket.

With a side full of batting, the order changed around in an attempt to try something different and for the most part, the experiment worked.

Any side is helped by their county pro’s inclusion and Leicestershire’s Neil Pinner stood out with a cracking 84 to open the innings.

Renwick fell early for eight after again looking good, but Read joined Pinner and made it to drinks with the score on 134-1.

Read and Pinner then fell quickly, leaving two new batsmen at the crease, Exton and Gillett, both on 0.

The pair added a valuable stand of 117 in 18 overs, both men passing 50, rotating the strike well and punishing the bad ball.

But quick wickets fell again as Gillett was gone for 55 followed soon after by Exton for 57.

In an attempt to get to 300, wickets tumbled and Thorpe closed their innings on 268-7.

The Ivanhoe response was perfect with a 78-run opening stand.

Pinner took the first and second wickets, but the partnership for the second was 101, and at 179-2 the hosts were strong favourites after Pinner (2 for 43) had bowled his 10 overs.

The home side were relentless as young academy products kept coming to the crease and producing a real masterclass in how to chase a score down.

There was late success for Christie and Starkey, but the game was up, Ivanhoe knocking off the runs with four wickets down in 42 overs.

It was a better performance from Thorpe, but still a defeat, and after a good first half to the game, the second was very poor.
