For the third week running, Egerton Park Seconds were involved in a nail-biting finish in Division Six East, but this time they came out on the wrong side at Great Glen.

After putting Glen in on a damp wicket, things should have started well, but dropped catches let the home side race to 41 before Webster started to make inroads.

Wickets fell regularly as Glen’s batsmen kept swinging from the hip, and as Park started to hold onto their catches, Webster collected his first five-wicket haul of the season.

Skipper Barnard claimed three late wickets as the home side finished all out for 220.

Tyler and Bates started well, putting on 43 before Bates was bowled for 19. Tyler and Harry Webster increased the tempo, but when both fell, along with Cham, Park looked a long way from home.

But up stepped Jamie Burdett and Creed who smashed the ball to all parts as victory suddenly looked on again.

Tom Mold and Barnard carried on attacking, and at 216-7 the game looked all but won.

Yet once again the game turned sharply on its head, and five balls later Park were dismissed for 217, leaving them to drive home wondering what might have been.
