Carp aid Donaldson victory at Lake View Fishery
Vets affected by overnight frost...
Overnight frost meant there there was a lack of carp for most anglers as the Lake View Vets met on Saturday.
On Reef peg 10, however, Ian Donaldson was into good sized carp from the whistle.
Fishing corn across to the island he had fish throughout the match and, despite losing some good fish, he ended with a winning weight of 89lbs. Brian Nicholls was second on the lake with 22lbs from peg 12.
On Marina it was mainly ide that made up the weights but Steve Beckhurst did find some carp late on down the margins on peg one and took the lake with 64lbs.
Dirk Williams was second from peg 10, finishing with 52lbs.
Third and the other section winner was Roy Toulson on peg six with 45lbs just ahead of Martin Quilter on peg 18 with 42lbs.
At last Wednesday’s meeting, most anglers struggled for the first couple of hours and skimmers were the only fish showing in numbers.
On river Mark Bowles found carp and F1’s across to the island on peg five but lost a lot before he started to build a decent weight- but came to the scales with 39lbs, enough to take the match.
Roger Marlow was second overall from peg one with 38lbs.
The other section on river was won by Tom Hamilton on peg 12. He had a good last hour with 27lbs brought to the scales.
On Stream, weights were not so good and it was Martin Quilter who took the lake from peg 14. Three fish caught in the last 15 minutes boosted his final weight to 28lbs. Pete Cliffe on peg 16 won his section with 25lbs and John Cooke took the other section from peg three with 23lbs.
