Belvoir League: Mars Petcare secure maiden win of season

Mars Petcare won their first Browning Suzuki Belvoir League match of the season by 21 runs last Thursday.

Batting first they initially struggled against Andy Burton (3 for 14), but Reynolds (15) and Jack Pollard (33) got them up to a competitive score of 92-8 despite good bowling from Graham Marshall (4 for 20).

In reply, Broughton struggled against an excellent opening spell from Chris Hatton (3 for 19), backed up well by Marsh (2 for 15), Reynolds (2 for 6) and Sackree (2 for 7).

Allied with excellent catching from Pollard. Mars restricted Broughton to 71-9.

* Old Dalby and Thorpe Arnold meet on Monday in the Frank Woodhead Cup final at Melton’s All England Ground (6.15pm start).

* The league have extended the deadline for fixtures to be played until August 12 to allow teams to play their outstanding matches cancelled by rain.

This year has seen plenty of youngsters and former cricketers returning to the game in this friendly league.
