Belvoir moved within 20 points of the Division A leaders as Greg Oldfield put lowly Wollaton to the sword on Saturday.

After being sent into bat first, Wollaton’s Richard Adams (4 for 101) soon had the hosts two wickets down, but then it was all about the bats of Josh Sharpe and Greg Oldfield.

Sharpe (88) took single after single through the off side while thumping 11 fours, mostly through mid-wicket. And Oldfield was unstoppable, thrashing 188 from 128 balls, with his final 88 runs coming off just 36 balls.

The principal victims were Adams and Mustafa Iqbal (2 for 113) who both showed fortitude and stamina as 10 times Oldfield cleared the boundary between mid-wicket and deep mid-on.

Skipper Tom Neville came in and immediately kicked off, but he was neatly pouched after scoring 29 from 16 balls.

In reply, Wollaton captain David Barr (100) set about securing as many points for his team as he could, hitting 16 fours in a classy knock.

But after completing his ton, Barr seemed to lose concentration and holed out to a good catch in the deep by Phil Irvine.

He was supported in a second wicket stand of 165 by the dashing Ian Dodd (67). In a vain effort to tempt Wollaton into chasing the target, Belvoir put on a selection of part-time bowlers and, in the end, all 11 had a go.

With five overs left, Wollaton were still only two wickets down, but Oldfield returned to win a couple of bowling bonus points with a spell of 3 for 16 to cap a great day’s entertainment at Knipton.
