Belvoir chase blunted by Long Eaton attack

Have your say

Belvoir First XI fell short in a low-scoring Division A defeat at home to Long Eaton.

Two wickets for Danny Gibson (2 for 19) in successive overs rocked Lthe visitors’ steady start. Captain Tom Pepper and Lerato Kgoatle (32) stabilised the innings, but the first over from Greg Oldfield (4 for 26) removed both.

Brett Scothern and Kieran Cooke both batted with panache but fell to Lewis Dann (3 for 28) as Long Eaton struggled past the hundred mark to 128 all out after an excellent bowling and fielding display.

The champagne catch was a low blaster held by skipper Tom Neville at silly mid-off.

In reply, Josh Sharpe had just got going when he was one of two wickets to fall in successive balls for man-of-the-match Alan Villiers (19-6-61-6).

Jack Copley (35) and Tom Neville steadied the ship, but at 50 the latter was well-caught by Cooke off Villiers.

Lewis Dann and Louis Holliday (27) were obdurate for the next 13 overs, scuttling the score along to 93-4, but Long Eaton’s other tireless bowler, the naggingly accurate Andy Edge (3 for 31) then had Dann trapped lbw.

Ryan Lewis and Danny Gibson were both gritty in defence but Belvoir were all out 12 runs short of victory.
