OLYMPIC TORCH: Gallery and video as flame enters Melton

PEOPLE young and old lined Asfordby Road to cheer on the torchbearers as the Olympic flame came to Melton.

St John Ambulance stalwart David Newton, from Asfordby, was greeted by friends from his barbershop group the Heart of England Chorus as well as hundreds of children from Grove Primary School as he completed his leg of the journey.

At the junction with Nottingham Road on Norman Way he handed over the flame to charity fundraiser John Southerington, from Melton, who carried the flame along Nottingham Street to the heart of the town centre.

Crowds five or six deep lined the street, waving their flags, taking pictures and giving the him an almighty cheer.
