Melton Under 11s hardball team came up against a strong Syston side on Friday night.
Bestwick and Braime hit seven boundaries in their four overs to get Melton off to a flying start before Thorpe and Wright added 21 to put Melton on 254 at the halfway mark.
Two great catches and good bowling cost Melton four wickets to peg the score back, but final pair Cave and Kilburn guided Melton to a respectable 286-8.
Melton’s opening bowlers Tew and Thorpe bowled tightly and accurately with Tew taking a triple-wicket maiden.
Kilburn and Wright maintained the pressure and at halfway, Syston were 210-4. More tight bowling from Cropper and Braime left Syston requiring 52 runs from the final four overs from Bestwick, Cropper and Tew. Despite some great batting from their last pair, Syston fell 18 runs short.
