Mount Group Riding for the Disabled are preparing for the RDA National Championships after all four of its dressage riders qualified.

The riders and the back-up team will leave their Somerby base and head to Hartpury College for the three-day championships on July 17.

Joseph Platt and his mount Spirit competed in their first-ever dressage test and finished third in one test with 65.58 per cent, and fourth in the other with 65 per cent.

They have qualified for the RDA combine training dressage and show jumping class at the championships.

Former soldier Joseph hopes this will lay the foundations to fulfil his ambition to be profiled for para sports.

Julie Clarke, riding Hernsbrook Mizen, won the partially-sighted walk and trot test with a score of 70.62 per cent.

Christine Durrance rode Hernsbrook Mizen to third place with a score of 69.41 per cent in the open walk, trot and canter test.

She had already qualified for Hartpury courtesy of winning both of her classes last year.

Vicky Nurcombe, riding Fabrication, better known as Harry, won her Grade II walk and trot test with the highest marks of the day.

Her score of 85.29 per cent earned her the Penny Tiptoes Trophy, presented in memory of the wonderful Mount Group dressage cob.

Vicky and Harry then went to Vale View last weekend as part of the Northern Lights team at the Para-Dressage Home International.

She won two out of three classes and came third in her other test to help the Northern Lights team to finish third overall.
