Young motorsport fan Chase Sharpe is set to follow in his father’s footsteps and drive in his first race later this year.
The six-year-old will make his karting debut on December 10 in the three-race Stretton Sprint Winter Series with further rounds to follow in January and February.
It will be a precursor to his first full season, kicking off in March next year.
And in the meantime Chase will attend the Melton Times Achievement Awards at Melton Theatre tomorrow evening (Friday)after being shortlisted for the Young Inspirational Person award.
Dad Henry said: “He is so excited and is really pumped up for it. He has shown great speed and control, so the races will be a taster for the full season next year.
“Chase has absolutely amazed everybody around him, with the speed and driving technique he has, at the grand old age of six!”
He has grown up watching his dad race and shortly after an introductory lesson to karting – a sixth birthday present – Henry’s long-term sponsors Clifton Garage agreed to help buy the youngster his first kart.
Chase has been regularly honing his fledgling skills at the Stretton Circuit in Leicester, and last month set his best-ever lap time around the track, which would have put him high up on the grid in a previous race.
He is now supported by six main sponsors – Clifton Garage, Revolution Porsche, Absolute Alignment, Webheads, Wayside Adhesives, Havoline and Marshall Land Rover – Melton Mowbray.
“They have all seen how Chase has started and where he is now,” Henry added. “He is certainly a force to be reckoned with.
“To have the support of local business, Marshall Land Rover, is brilliant. Jon Green has been a great support.
“We are all amazed by his dedication to his karting and how he handles himself.”
