Primary school pupils from Waltham and Redmile celebrated after they were crowned area quicksticks hockey champions.

Melton and Belvoir School Sport and Physical Activity Network hosted the event at Melton Sports Village with separate competitions for Years 3 and 4, and Years 5 and 6.

Waltham Primary School were double winners in the elder category, taking home the Spirit of the Games award as well as the overall trophy.

They pipped Redmile into second place with Ab Kettleby third, Great Dalby fourth and St Mary’s, Melton in fifth.

But Redmile went one better in the Years 3 and 4 competition as they topped the standings, while St Mary’s, who finished seventh, won the Spirit of the Games prize.

Great Dalby finished as runners-up from third-placed Waltham, while Scalford A and B took fourth and fifth respectively, and Ab Kettleby were sixth.

Waltham and Redmile will go on to represent Melton and Belvoir at the School Games Summer Championships at Welbeck Defence Sixth Form College on Thursday, June 30.

Organisers wished to thank students from Sport BMC and Active Together Melton for their help in running the event.
