Last week saw the biggest attendance of the seniors winter warmers series at Stoke Rochford GC when 59 players competed in a pairs Stokesome.
The last pairing of the day, Graham Manton and Barry Gaunt, returned 41 points to win by two points from Brian White and Roland Slack who took second place on countback from Brian Ayto and Greg Ewart.
The overall leader with one round to play is Brian White with 51 points from Phil White (47) and Brian Ayto 43.
The Slack Goblet will now be a straight head-to-head between John Smeeton and John Wright, each with 13 single points.
* The ladies’ season began at Stoke Rochford with the Early Birds 7/8th stableford competition.
Norma Varley won with 32 points, one ahead of Dorne Werner who took second spot on countback from Sue Booth.
Phillippa Smith won the March Wednesday Medal after a round of 75, while Sue Booth took the scratch prize with 87.
Marion Carvath was second with 76, and Sheila Dugmore (78) took third place.
The hi-low stableford greensome was played on a very blustery day and won by Pam Watson and Jane Mantell (38pts). Sue Booth and Marion Carvath were two points back in second.
The Joy Vase, a three-team event, off 7/8th handicap, was won Sue Booth, Carol Hamilton and Doris Kent with 70 points.
