Having been abandoned the previous weekend because of torrential rain, the Stoke Rochford Seniors annual Poppy Day Appeal competition went ahead despite continuous rain and mist.

Entries were down due to the weather, but organisers managed to squeeze a magnificent £623.21 from the players for the Poppy Fund which will increase when all collection boxes are emptied.

Ron Kent won the individual stableford with 39 points, a point ahead of John Helstrip who took second spot on countback from Brian Keightley. All three, together with the organiser, won a round of golf and meal at Ruddington Grange GC. Reserves for the trip are Phil White who was fourth with 37 points, fifth-placed David Hamilton (36pts ocb) and six-placed Tom Keegan.

The first round of the Winter Warmers ran in conjunction which took the aggregate scores of each group of three.

Greg Ewart, Mike Nixon and Ken Taylor won with 102 points, just ahead of Brian and Phil White with Eddie Plant (101), Peter Gill, Larry Larsen and John Lemmon (100) and Maurice Way, Alan Church and Tom Keegan (98).
