Newmarket Angling Club crashed out of the Bait-Tech Super Cup on Sunday - but the story could have been so very different.
The Newmarket team of Gary Rimmer (captain), John Millard, Mark Cross, Geoff Arnold, Dave Rees and Trevor Oakman went down 4-2 in section losses to Hoskins Haulers in the match, which was fished at Haverhill Flood Park.
Rimmer said: “It was a really tight match and all section wins were within ounces - it could have gone either way.”
Rimmer won his section with 10lb 4oz. Both he and the other NAC section winner Dave Rees fished pinkie over groundbait and a change bait of worm and caster. Rees finished on 13lb for his win.
n Geoff Arnold had a better result on Bank Holiday Monday when the Newmarket Angling Club rod won an open match at Head Fen Lakes, just outside Little Downham.
Arnold bagged 66lb to win, with fellow NAC angler Mark Cross in second spot with 60lb.
n The fishing just gets better and better at Blackdyke Trout Fishery.
Drys are taking most fish, along with emerging buzzers just left to drift in the ripple close in to the bank. In clear water, anglers have reported seeing fish coming up for a fly in the clear water.
