Melton’s superstar Thai boxer Iman Barlow took her tally of world titles into double figures as she dominated her grudge match with Dutch fighter Samantha van Droon.
Iman won all five rounds of the Enfusion world title fight in Ireland, a bout which was televised to 40 countries.
It was her 10th world title and made her a three-time Enfusion champion with more title defences than anyone else.
There was bad blood before the contest had even begun with van Droon still believing she had won last year’s clash between the two in Thailand, a fight which the Melton Thai boxer was awarded.
Iman’s dad and coach Mark said: “Even at the weigh-in she snatched the belt from Iman and then did an interview criticising her, saying Iman was arrogant and how she was going to knock her out.”
Despite the provocation, Iman kept her composure and chose to do her talking in the ring.
In the opening round the Dutch girl, from the Vos Gym, tried to use her boxing and footwork to blunt Iman’s big kicks, but Mark had prepared his daughter for the tactic. Iman cut the ring off and unloaded her kicks to van Droon’s body and head.
The second round saw the ‘Pretty Killer’ close her opponent down and use her strength on the clench to hurt the Dutch girl who began to tire in the next round as Iman continued to score with kicks and knees.
The Melton fighter looked unstoppable in rounds four and five, using her jabs to set everything up.
Several times van Droon looked finished, but she hung in until the final bell, but the judges awarded all five rounds to Iman.
