Melton sidecar race couple hit Europe for summer season

The Melton couple have mixed podium finishes with DNFs as they competed at some of Europe’s most prestigious classic racing meets.

After securing two third-place finishes at Cadwell Park, the Williams looked to have carried their form to the Netherlands in June as they qualified second at the Dutch road circuit of Hengelo.

But a wrecked clutch in the first race ended their weekend prematurely.

The Melton classic sidecar racers were back on the road in July as they headed to Belgium for another meeting at Chimay.

They responded to some great support to race back onto the podium with two third positions.

The Czech Republic was their next destination as they took a break from the Camathias Cup to fulfil a long-standing ambition to race at the Czech Classic TT at Horice.

“It was absolutely fantastic; the circuit went out of the town and into the woods,” Kerry said.

“We were blown away by the organisation and the size of the event. It was massive.”

The only English team competing, Kerry and Jennifer rose to the occasion to beat a host of bigger bikes and riders with plenty of experience of the track to claim a fifth-place finish.

From there they headed north to Belgium once more for more Camathias Cup duties at Gedine.

But following another third place finish in race one there was to be more mechanical misfortune when an electrical problem in race two ended their weekend.

The Melton racers, who are supported by Melton Mowbray Tyres and Tony Keele, end their season back at Cadwell Park on October 27 and 28.

“We would welcome any sidecar fans and anyone who would like to come and watch at Cadwell,” Kerry added.

“We’ve failed to finish a few races and that’s a shame, but that’s racing.

“Races are mainly won in the garage, and we will be out to finish the season on a high.”
