Melton show jumper Lance Whitehouse secured a national title thanks to a lightning quick round.
Whitehouse took the honours in the National Grade C Championship final, part of the British Showjumping National Championships, at Stoneleigh, in Warwickshire.
After completing the jump-off on two of his three rides, he entered the arena for his final chance at taking the title on Karen Bosworth’s seven-year-old bay mare Lady Rouge II.
In a nail-biting round, Whitehouse raced against the clock with nothing to lose and after stopping the clock in 30.69 seconds, emerged the victor.
He was elated with the performances put in by all his horses as he also finished third Calle Caal, bur reserved particular praise for Lady Rouge II.
“She was very, very quick,” he said. “She tried her heart out, she really, really tried for me”.
The winning pair have been together for two years with very consistent performances both on home soil and abroad.
“My owners are really loyal to me so it’s nice to give them something back with the win,” he added.
