The fledgling Melton Mowbray Croquet Club are hoping to build on a solid first season as they look to bring competitive sport to the club.

The club held its second annual meeting last week and heard that the current playing area needs to be larger to create a competition standard lawn, an aim the committee will look to meet in the coming year.

Club chairwoman Sue Bailey led the meeting, held at Melton Indoor Bowls Club, and reported a very productive debut season, while outlining 2019 as a chance for members to improve their game, obtain handicaps and compete with other clubs.

Founder member Dominic Dobson was elected the club’s first president, while Sue was re-elected as chairwoman, and Chris Lawman re-elected as treasurer.

Jane Gill was voted in as membership secretary, Malcolm Duff as social secretary, and Dinah Hickling remains an ex-Officio committee member.

Sue praised David Kiddle and John Davies for their coaching sessions and thanked Melton Building Society for their generous donation for equipment and

Melton Mowbray Town Estate for the use of Wilton Park.

Anyone interested in joining the club should contact Sue on 07969 236211.
