Melton Kings C made it two wins out of two with a 59-38 victory against Swadlincote C last week.
Reynolds opened his account with a brace of three-pointers to establish an 8-2 lead before the teams traded points for the rest of the quarter.
It could have been even better for Kings, had Gibbons not missed all four free throws, and Wojdak’s three-pointer brought Swadlincote within four points at 14–10.
With a controlled offence, and a hard-working defence, Kings began the second quarter with an 8–0 run, Reynolds leading the scoring with another tree-pointer.
Swadlincote changed their defence to counter Reynolds’ outside shooting, but this created space for Tamosiunas to drive to the basket, assisted by good inside work from Watts and Long.
Swadlincote’s offence was led by Mazhindu and strong inside work from Prince, and at half-time, Kings led 30-20.
Points were traded at the start of the second half with Melton’s scoring shared throughout the squad. Hunt’s control created good scoring opportunities for King’s inside players.
In the last two minutes of the third quarter, Kings’ defence stepped up and confined Swadlincote to just one point compared to six of their own as Kings extended their lead to 45–30.
The start of the final quarter saw Swadlincote rush their shots as they chased the game, and Kings seemed to get caught up in the rush, turning the ball over too many times.
Swadlincote reduced the deficit to 45-34, but Kings called a time-out and regained their composure and control.
Whenham-Bossy steadied the team with solid points as Kings waited for Swadlincote to chase the ball which created space for good outside scoring.
This opened the defence even more, allowing Kings to take the ball to the hoop and stretch their eventual winning margin to 21 points.
Melton Kings C’s next game is away to Fullhurst College B. Tip at 7.30pm.
