Melton Hockey Club’s Third XI started the new year with a re-arranged home match against Derwent on Saturday.
Melton dominated the match from the start and within two minutes they were awarded a penalty flick when the young Derwent keeper flattened Durrant.
With the keeper sin-binned for 10 minutes the substitute easily saved Durrant’s weak flick.
Melton’s pressure brought out some desperate tackles and despite facing a massed defence a score seemed inevitable, and after a slick move Larke was on hand to finish.
The hosts squandered several more chances before Creed hammered home a short corner to give them a 2-0 lead.
With the traffic remaining one-way, Melton relaxed and were stunned when Derwent reduced the arrears from a swift counter-attack despite several good saves from Cliffe.
But the home side struck back immediately when Creed added a second before a reverse-stick shot from Cramphorn sealed the 4-1 victory.
