Melton Hockey Club teams return to fray after winter break

Have your say

Melton Hockey Club teams are due to return to action this weekend after the league’s month-long winter break.

The First XI have had an inconsistent first half of the season in Midlands Division Two, and will hope to hit the ground running at Sikh Union Nottingham on Saturday. They currently lie seventh with five wins from their 11 matches.

Also looking for an upturn in fortunes are the ladies’ side who have struggled for numbers this season.

They lie second-bottom of Leicestershire League Premier going into Saturday’s trip to Loughborough Students, but are just five points off a mid-table position.

The men’s Second XI are mid-table in East Midlands Premier with five wins and defeats, but would leapfrog Saturday’s opponents Coalville with victory at Burton Road.

Melton’s men are firmly in the title mix in the Third XI East Midlands Division One, and sit second, just a point behind leaders Derby ahead of Saturday’s visit to North Notts.

Melton’s young Fourth XI will be aiming for their third win of the season when they host Khalsa (2pm) who are one place below.
