Melton Hockey Club First XI followed up a good win against South Notts last week, courtesy of Danny Kendall’s hat-trick, with a fighting draw against high-flying Stratford on Saturday.
Facing a three-goal deficit with only 15 minutes to go, Melton stunned Stratford with three late goals from Danny Kendall, Andy Sibun and a penalty flick with only minutes to go from Matt Snow.
This weekend they face a difficult trip to league leaders Warwick in their final game before the mid-season break.
* Last week saw Melton Thirds crush Mansfield with a 10-0 victory.
Melton dominated throughout and Boyne opened the scoring before Durrant added a brace, the second of which was reverse-stick into the roof of the net from an impossible angle.
Larke then gave Melton a 4-0 half-time lead.
The second half followed a similar pattern with Larke scoring twice more to complete his hat-trick.
More goals followed with skipper Icely getting on the scoresheet before Mansfield’s tempers frayed and they were fortunate not to receive a red card.
Tom Cramphorn completed the scoring with a crisp strike.
Melton made the long trip to Wirksworth on Saturday to play Derwent only to find the pitch was double-booked and the hosts had to concede the game.
* Melton Fourth XI continued their recent good form with a 3-1 victory over Rugby Sixths.
Simon Welch struck twice for the home side and Zak Whitaker was also on target.
