Galeforce winds and torrential rain and hale made for tough fishing conditions at the Lakeview Open match on Saturday.
The canal and river pools still produced good and close weights with Simon Skelton topping the lot from canal peg 15 with 110lb 8oz. The winning bag was a mixture of F1s and big mirrors, mainly caught on maggot over pellet, down the track and margins.
The next four weights fell just short of a ton as the river lake began to show its true potential. Roger Marlow, fishing on peg one, took 90lb 9oz, just missing out on fourth spot to Ken Daws from peg 16 with 91lb. Both caught on maggot, mainly in the margins because of the conditions.
* Lakeview hosts a Bank Holiday Monday open match, draw at 9am.
The fishery’s new £4,000 qualifiers also begin next Wednesday. See www.lakeviewfishery.com or next week’s Melton Times for details.
