In milder, but windy conditions, 13 anglers turned out at Lakeview Fishery for last Wednesday’s Middy Xtreme qualifier.
Andy Searle took the top weight of 55lb 10oz, taking F1s, carp to 4lb and skimmers to 2lb from peg two. He caught all over on maggot which seemed to be bait of the day.
Mick Beckhurst came a close second with 50lb of carp, skimmers and F1s, and Sean Huggins was third with 31lb 5oz. But with the top three already qualified, fourth-placed Steve Kinch went through to the final next March.
Top five: 1 Andy Searle (LV Select) 55lb 10oz (peg 2), 2 Mick Beckhurst (LV Select) 50lb (peg 14), 3 Sean Huggins (Drennan/Dynamite) 31lb 5oz (peg 4), 4 Steve Kinch (Dynamite) 25lb 8oz (peg 19), 5 Scott Robinson (LV Select) 24lb 5oz (peg 22).
* Stormy winds again made fishing difficult for Saturday’s qualifier, but Coopers Tackle and Bait shop owner Paul Cooper qualified.
He caught a mix of carp to 4lb, skimmers and F1s for a weight of 38lb 4oz off peg 17 which is open to the elements.
Top five: 1 Paul Cooper (Cooper Tackle) 38lb 4oz (peg 17), 2 Andy Searle (LV Select) 31lb 4oz (peg 14), 3 Sean Huggins (Drennan/Dynamite) 30lb 12oz (peg 12), 4 Dave Harper (Plumtree Pig Roast) 26lb 9oz (peg 3), 5 Jason Sahall (LV Select) 18lb 8oz (peg 21).
* Ken Daws, from Nottingham, drew the lucky golden peg eight to take 51lb 4oz and win Sunday’s open match.
Ken bagged an extra £220 on top of his lake win after catching on pellet and maggot across and down the track to take carp to 5lb, skimmers and F1s.
