Very strong winds and rain hampered the 11 anglers who turned out for last Wednesday’s Middy qualifier at Lakeview Fishery.
Steve Haywood, who is sponsored by Middy, was the lucky angler to get through, catching 68lb 1oz off peg 16. Winds made it difficult to fish across to the island and many choose not to, but Steve took the risk and it paid off.
He caught mainly F1s to 2lb and carp up to 6lb as well as a few smaller skimmers, catching on pellet fishing down the track and margins. He also won a Middy 4GS Micro Muscle Waggler Rod for the highest weight accumulated the last month.
* Andy Searle won the Saturday qualifier, catching 104lb 10oz, off peg 29 on the canal pool.
Andy caught on maggot and pellet, landing a nice mixed net of carp to 6lb and F1s to 2lb with a few silvers.
Brian Greenbury was this week’s winner of the landing net, and Tony Webb won a dvd, all donated by Middy.
Jason Farmery drew golden peg on Serpent 17, and won the lake with 66lb 13lb to earn an extra £70.
The competition is still open to all with a £5 one-off entry fee. For details, visit www.lakeviewfishery.com/news
* The canal lake proved to be the best lake to draw for Sunday’s open match, with peg nine producing the top weight of all three lakes.
Ken Daws was on top form to catch 115lb 1oz of common carp to 4lb, F1s to 2lb and skimmers. He caught on pellet and maggot fishing down the track and margins feeding light.
Steve Haywood topepd the marina weights with a mix of F1s and carp to 5lb for a total of 60lb 8oz.
Newcomer Graham Elliott won the lagoon lake, catching 45lb 7oz of F1s to 2lb, on pellet.
