John Cooke tightened his grip on the Lakeview Veterans Winter League with two more wins last week.
His first victory came on Wednesday when a covering of snow and very low temperatures kept the numbers venturing out well down.
Fishing the marina pool, it was the two end pegs which fought it out over top spot.
Steve Beckhurst drew peg one yet again and must have felt he had a good chance, but with Cooke immediately opposite on peg 25 it proved to be the same old story.
By the end a mere 1lb separated the two as Cooke finished with 37lb, fishing pellet across, while Beckhurst, fishing maggot, landed 36lb.
Gary Smith completed the top three with 28lb, but down the list the weights dropped considerably as the fish proved reluctant to feed.
Results: 1 John Cooke (Notts AA) 37lb 4oz (peg 25); 2 Steve Beckhurst (Lakeview Vets) 36lb 3oz (peg 1); 3 Gary Smith 28lb 10oz; 4 Roger Holmes 18lb 12oz; 5 Steve Fletcher 18lb 8oz.
* The veterans fished reef on Saturday which had produced reasonable weights in recent weeks.
But it was not to last as the match drew the lowest weights since the bad spell weather began. The Notts AA angler was the winner again, but on this occasion needed only 13lb to take the money.
It was maggot once more which proved to attract the fish with Lew Nightingale coming in second with 6lb on maggot.
It was then down to single pound weights or even ounces to take some league points.
Results: 1 John Cooke (Notts AA) 13lb 4oz (peg 11); 2 Lew Nightingale (Lakeview Vets) 6lb 2oz (peg 13); 3 Cliff Adcock 1lb 10oz; 4 Chris Shore 1lb 3oz; 5 Roger Holmes 0lb 8oz.
