Lakeview Fishery: Adcock lands low-scoring win at icy vets match

Have your say

Having had some excellent results in the past from the reef lake, hopes were high for last Wednesday’s veterans match at Lakeview.

But with strong biting cold winds weights were well down and fish tended to be concentrated in certain areas.

It was Brian Orme, who seems to favour reef, who came out on top. Despite the wind and difficulty in presenting the bait, he fished over to the island with pellet and maggot and built up a reasonable 41lb bag.

In the same area on an end peg, Gary Smith was second with 37lb, while Roger Marlow, with 28lb, took the section.

The other section winner was Chris Shore who had to continuously search out the fish in his swim to finish with 34lb.

* With the Oasis lake covered in ice there was no doubt that weights would be well down again for the veterans’ Saturday match.

This proved to be the case with Cliff Adcock only needing 20lb to take the win. Fishing maggot across to the island he needed to move around to pick out the fish which were feeding.

Runner-up Roger Holmes took a 14lb bag on pellet, and Brian Orme netted 10lb for third place on maggot and pellet.

The rest of the field failed to make double figures and three anglers failed to weigh in proving prospects will be tough for the coming weeks.

* A very cold start with ice on the lakes didn’t deter 23 men from competing in Sunday’s open match at Lakeview.

A strong wind blew and by 11am the ice had cleared which made for a very close match.

Chris Neal came top from lagoon peg five with 59lb 1oz with a nice mix of carp F1s, and skimmers. He caught mainly on bread and pellet across and down the track.

Bob Greenbury was second with 56lb 4oz off reef 15, catching mainly again on bread and later on pellet.

Results: 1 Chris Neal (Rutlander) 59lb 1oz (lagoon 5), 2 Bob Greenbury (Sensas) 56lb 4oz (reef 15), 3 Martin Thackery (Woodhouse A/C) 48lb 8oz (reef 21), 4 Shaun Huggins (Dynamite) 36lb 12oz (reef 11), 5 Mick Beckhurst (LV Select) 36lb 12oz (reef 19), 6 Kev Kania (LV Select) 32lb 8oz (lagoon 9), 7 Shaun Kemp 23lb 12oz (reef 9), 8 Ken Daws (Sensas) 23lb 12oz (lagoon 2), 9 Jason Farmery (LV Select) 23lb 12oz (lagoon 7).
