The latest anglers to reach the Middy Baggin Machine Summer Series final did so despite finishing outside of the top five in this week’s qualifiers.
Mark Saunders finished seventh at last Wednesday’s match with 76lb 10oz, taken from peg 24 on the serpent pool, going through by default with all of the anglers above having already booked their spots for the September 17 final.
Sixth place was good enough for Martin Almen on Saturday, as the Leicestershire angler weighed in with 52lb 4oz from peg 20 on the river.
Sean Huggins won last Wednesday’s qualifier with the week’s biggest catch of 119lb 2oz, while the Saturday spoils went to Steve Haywood with 78lb exactly.
n After two fourth-place finishes, Brian Greenbury finally took top spot at the Sunday open match.
He finished almost 20lb clear of runner-up Tom Pringle with a three-figure haul of 100lb 5oz, taken from the lagoon’s peg 10.
