Patience paid off for Melton’s Thai boxing world champion Iman Barlow as she defeated a tough Indonesian opponent on the Continent.
The Assassin Muay Thai fighter travelled to Belgium to take on Suyara Herrisa as part of one of the best recent fight cards in Europe, staged by her Enfusion stable.
Facing an opponent with a reputation as an aggressive puncher, Iman was told by her coach and father Mark to be careful early on.
Iman took her time, keeping her guard high in the opening round and keeping Herrisa at a distance.
In the second round, Iman began to use her powerful rib and leg kicks to good effect, and by the third the Indonesian was beginning to tire.
Iman’s kicks were taking their toll and her left body kicks clearly hurt her opponent several times.
The Indonesian survived to the final bell, but judges awarded the bout to the English fighter.
Iman returns to Melton for a show at the Market Tavern on Saturday, March 7. She takes on tough Swedish fighter Therese Gunnerson in what is expected to be five hard-fought rounds.
The contest is part of an Assassins show which will feature 10 other members of the Melton gym, plus guests.
Tickets are on sale from any Assassin member. See the Assassins Muay Thai Facebook page for more details.
