Hamilton Tennis Club’s ladies’ first team strengthened their position at the top of Division One with another big win.

Three set maximums from Di Burdett and Amelia Coltman, and Charlie Griffin with Jess Gadsby helped the team defeat Leicestershire B 8-1.

Georgie Ashmore and Sibella Chew won two to seal another convincing win.

* The men’s second team lost 5-4 to Leicestershire D on a very windy night despite a three-set haul from James Rowe and Andy Douglas.

Scores: Ben Catlin/Jimmi Cox L 3-9, W 9-7, L 3-9; James Rowe/Andy Douglas W 9-5, 9-8, 9-7; Ben Wallace/Geoff Wallace L 7-9, 7-9, 5-9.

* The men’s third team beat Oakham Firsts 6-3.

Mike Crane with Andy Stevens led the team with three sets, while Andy Douglas and Joe Jackson won two sets, and Doug with Jon Hacking one.

* The men’s veterans’ first team defeated Wigston 5-3 as Barrie Farnsworth and Bruce Smith won two sets, and Doug Hacking with Dave Gildove won three.

* The veterans’ second teams had two heavy defeats with the mens team of Joe Cunningham, Brian Randall, Mike Pratt and Keith Galloway losing 8-0 to Roundhill, while the ladies’ team of Jude Plumb, Jo Rowe, Eileen Merrison and Pat Woolston had the same result against Ashby Castle Firsts.

* The girls’ under 14s team of Libby Duncan, Abi Hickling and Beth Cavani beat Stoney Stanton 4-2 despite having to concede two rubbers because they could only field three players.

* After hosting a schools festival, and the Melton and Belvoir School Sports Tennis Tournament, Hamilton will hold their second open day of the season on Saturday, June 27.
