Hamilton Tennis Club’s annual championships continued last week with the ladies’ doubles final.
The mother and daughter pair of Sue and Emily Harrison got off to a flying start against Sue Corfield and Margaret Roskell, pushing them behind the baseline and winning points with some fierce driving.
However, the experience and doggedness of Sue and Margaret gradually allowed them to pull back from their early deficit and take the first set 6-4.
The second set also went to Sue and Margaret by 6-3 after some tense rallies and good interceptions by Sue.
* On the league scene, Hamilton’s ladies’ second team of Cindy Coulter, Margaret Roskell, Penny Hallam and Polly Dolby gained a rare win over Melton ladies’ second team by seven sets to one.
There was a maximum four sets to Cindy and Margaret, and three to Penny and Polly.
* The men’s first team of Jimmi Cox, Ben Catlin, Joe Jackson and Andy Douglas did not fare so well against Melton Seconds with an 8-0 defeat.
But the men’s third team of Graham Hall, Selwyn Carter, Joe Cunningham and Craig Tracey managed a 4-4 draw against Gynsill.
Craig and Joe led the team with three sets.
* The ladies’ third team of Chris Stevens, Pat Woolston, Jan Jackson and Nicky Herbert were very disappointed to draw 4-4.
Two sets went to each pair, but Jan and Nicky also lost two tie-break sets.
* The men’s fourth team of Keith Galloway, Fraser Dalby, Steve Plaistow and Graham Brown lost 8-0 to a younger and fitter Stoney Stanton.
