Greetham Valley’s juniors played their Christmas competition last week.
The Academy course hosted a flag fifty competition for younger juniors where each player had 50 shots to see how far they could get. Zakkai Piggott got all the way round to the ninth green to win from runner-up Archie Adams and third-placed Ella Peasgood, who both reached the eighth.
Tom Haynes, off 24, had a staggering score of 43 points in very windy conditions to win the Valley competition for older members of the junior section. Ellie Haughton was second with 38, and Kian Pearce, who had two fantastic nearest-the-pins on very tricky holes, was third with 37.
Club vice-captain Fred Aspin took nearest-the-pin on the 18th and won the adults prize with 35 points and paid tribute to club pro Neil Curtis and the junior organisers.
* The Boxing Day snowstorm cancelled Greetham’s Winter Order of Merit. Chris Tapsell and Martin Gore go into the next round on January 11 as joint leaders with 70 points.
* After three rounds of the Winter League, three teams remain unbeaten in Division One.
Steve Chisholm and Steve Burgon lead from Dennis Millington and Fred Aspin, while Gary Moat and Adam Smith are third,
Bill Skinner and Peter Zimmer Smith, and Dave Morgan and Ian Bain are unbeaten in Division Two, while three-time Winter League champions Pete Dickinson and Peter Smith are riding high in Division Three along with Tom Haynes and James Ablett.
Alan Bennett and Steff Dutton are the only unbeaten duo in Division Four. The next round is on Sunday.
