The traditional New Year’s Day nine-hole competition was cancelled by the snow, but it didn’t stop 120 members and friends cheering on new captains Fred Aspin and Cathy Steele.

In a change from the usual drive-in ceremony, junior captain Ellie Haughton and seniors captain Peter Wood were also invited to take part.

Outgoing captains Shaun Denholm, Bev Dolman and 2014 seniors captain Radley Wardhaugh also drove out of office. All seven drives over the lake, stream and rough on the 10th were cleanly struck.

* Round four of the Winter League was played in icy conditions on the valley course.

In Division One, Steve Chisholm and Steven Burgon are the only pairing with the maximum eight points after four wins.

Dave Morgan and Ian Bain also have maximum points in Division Two, but 2013 and 2014 winners Pete Dickinson and Peter Smith continue to pile the pressure on with four wins out of four in Division Three.

Division Four leaders, Alan Bennett and Steff Dutton also have full points.

* The 2015 Ladies’ Order of Merit began on Saturday in rain, wind and icy temperatures.

Despite the miserable conditions, new lady captain Cathy Steele had an incredible round to win with 34 points. She beat Ellie Haughton (32) into second place, while Sheila Douty lost third place on countback to Angela Wheeler, both with 31.

* Ian Jarvis won round six of the Seniors Winter League with a brilliant 40 points from runner-up Mike Maffei (39) who pushed David Aldred into third on countback.

John Dowding heads the overall league table with 91 points from Ian Jarvis (87) who is just one point ahead of third-placed Bob King.
