SOME of the top runners in the Melton area ran the Ashby 20 on Sunday which many use to warm-up for the London Marathon next month.
Former Stilton Strider Chris Southam, who now competes for Leicester Coritanian, finished in an excellent third place.
His time of 1.56.34 was impressive behind winner Oliver Harradence (Royal Sutton Coldfield AC), who clocked 1.54.18, and Leamington AC runner Jamie Langley (1.55.36).
Four Stilton Striders competed in the race on a bitterly cold morning with arctic-like conditions. The undulating course was far more challenging than normal.
However the 1,200 runners were treated to a superbly organised race, which is seen as one of the premier training events for the spring marathons.
Jonathon Oxbrough was first Strider home (2.24.41), followed by Andy Nicholls (2.44.55), Theresa Coltman (2.55.38) and Mike Brighty (3.02.09).
Melton Times sports editor Chris Harby was pleased with his time of around 2.46.
