A determined first time London Marathon runner has raised over £1,000 for the Whizz Kidz.
Renee Downing (45), who works at Birch Wood School, completed the race in time of 5hrs 16mins.
Renee said: “I’m a little disappointed in the time as I expected to do a little better. I was ill the week before with a stomach bug though and wasn’t sure at one point if I would actually even run, so all said and done I’m happy to have completed it.
“Crossing the finish line felt amazing and very emotional. The crowds were great and encouraged me every step of the way.
“I’m very tempted to do another at this point because I know I’m capable of a faster time.”
Renee’s family and friends travelled to London with her to support her during the race.
She said: “I saw them at Tower Bridge and again at mile 23 which really spurred me on but at the same time it was very emotional.
“Trying to walk after the finish line is so hard, it’s like your legs have forgotten what to do!”
