Gymnasts from Asfordby Captain’s Close School will fly the flag for the district at a county games after a dominant performance.
A total of 16 teams from across the borough travelled to Long Field Academy to compete in the Melton and Belvoir School Games Key Steps Gymnastics competition.
The schools were welcomed to the event with a dance performance by Long Field’s Year 9 girls who also provided leadership during the competition.
Each individual performed the disciplines of floor, body management and vault in different age groups - British Gymnastics’ Key Steps level one (Years 1 and 2), Key Steps level two (Years 3 and 4) and Key Steps level three (Years 5 and 6).
Captains Close won all three of the Key Steps competitions to win the overall team prize. They will represent Melton and Belvoir at the Leicester-shire and Rutland School Games at New College, Leicester, on Wednesday, April 29.
Great Dalby Primary School took a Key Steps one team of Year 2 pupils. Two of the children had no gymnastics experience, while the other two had only competed in one event, but they excelled, winning three individual gold medals in all of the disciplines to claim the team silver medal.
Other schools to compete were Frisby, Old Dalby, Asfordby Hill, Croxton Kerrial, St Peter’s Wymondham, and St Peters.
